Thickening sprays like Haircubed & Mane they are generally a little cheaper than hair fibers, and the hair can appear thicker all over. But most if not all just color the scalp and perhaps the hair a little. The ‘hair spray’ element just keeps the fine strands of existing hair in place like an old-fashioned lacquer. Some are water resistant but like any hair spray they will mostly come off when swimming and in heavy rain. Many people say the dye part of the spray then can also run onto forehead and even stain clothing.
Appearance:

Thickening sprays have a good range of colors available, but as they are opaque dye formulae, the many colors do not really enable a close match to the literally thousands of shades of hair that people have. Since the spray needs to coat each hair and the scalp, the color needs to be perfect to be convincing in all lighting conditions. Imagine the change from a cosy candlelit restaurant for two to strong sunlight outdoors or incandescent lighting in a store. Therefore the hair colour has to match the thickening spray exactly, otherwise camouflage will be less than convincing.
In addition, the inaccuracy of spraying means it is difficult, if not impossible, to use different colors to reproduce shades or highlights or the natural and distinguished salt ‘n’ pepper look of the graying head of hair. Nanofibres are available in a wide color range, but differ from sprays because the fibers use what are known as semi-opaque light scattering dyes. Additionally, a microscopic final coating on each fiber locks in the color with a clear coat which avoids dullness or a flat appearance. Only Nanofibres have this patent-pending manufacturing process which allows the easy blending of a close matching shade to any hair of similar shade. If you look at live videos of Nanogen application, you can see that before the fibres are blended in, the color does look slightly unmatched, and then afterward the blending is perfect. It has taken years of research and development and numerous generations of fiber coatings and manufacture techniques to perfect the illusion.
Nanogen are so confident of the technology that we actually guarantee to match your hair color, even difficult tones. Uniquely, Nanofibres can be mixed to match highlights, tone variations, and various stages of graying hair. There is not a spray we have seen and tested that can replicate the natural colour and shine of your hair.
Application:
Applying spray–on hair loss concealers can be messy. Nanogen get many customers complaining that their old spray product stained the bath, or made a mess of the sink, even permanently stained tile grouting and paintwork. Accidentally spraying clothing or skin can stain those as well. Nanofibres are a dry, color-fast powder so even if they accidentally get clothing they will just brush off. Nanofibres will also rinse easily down the shower or sink drain of without the need for extensive cleaning or detergents afterwards.
With Nanofibres there is no need to spend ‘hours’ styling and camouflaging your thinning hair. Even at a friend’s house or in the car, or using the office restroom, the discreet Nanogen jar is pocket-sized, does not mention hair at all and can be applied neatly in seconds for a little touch up if required.
Nanofibres are applied dry, and so if by mistake you use too much and don’t get the perfect finish you wanted, you can just comb some out with a fine-toothed comb. But once you get the hang of it, you’ll not even suffer this minor inconvenience. With sprays, any errors like applying too much makes the spray solution collect together and forming unsightly ridges and bubbles, which look obvious even from a distance. To correct this, you have to wash it all off thoroughly, wait for your hair to dry, and start all over again. So unless you’re an expert, you can only use the spray at home with a shower and shampoo close to hand.
Bright Light:

Bright light shines through the hair, and is reflected off both your hair and scalp. Any hair loss concealing product you use must be light compatible. It is the second most important factor in realistic hair loss concealment – the first being real volume which we will discuss below. Because Nanofibres are made from keratin, the same protein as natural hair, and because of the multitude of dyes and translucent coatings, Nanofibres look like natural hair in all lighting levels. Sprays, a lot like spray-paint, have to be either matte or glossy finished, so in bright light your hair will either look unnaturally dull, or have an unusual shine as if it’s been varnished, either way the spray will be visible.
Real Hair:

Nanogen is not real hair growing from the scalp, but it is actually made from the same protein as your own hair and even ‘scoured,’ to have the microscopic irregularity of natural hair. Under a microscope, an expert would have difficulty telling undyed Nanofibres apart from real hair cut to the same length. With Nanofibres, you are adding hair to your own hair. This is not a paint or dye; it is blending keratin that merges seamlessly with your hair. It is your hair. In a separate similar briefing, we will get into more detail about how the fibers work and the technology of that process. This is in the comparison between fiber brands. There you will discover that despite the wave of newcomer imitator fiber brands, the same level of research and development has gone into Nanofibres electrostatic charge and binding potential as the color process technologies discussed here. Even our packaging is patent-pending as it helps improve the whole binding process, but more on that in,
Water:
Nanogen, hopefully you will soon agree, is one of a few companies in the field of hair loss (and there are many others who we respect) that actually give you straight answers. The simple fact is, rain has a negative effect on all hair loss concealers, and heavy rain will impact on Nanofibres. It won’t cause any staining or embarrassing dye running due to our dye-lock system. That we promise. But fibers can be dislodged and we do not recommend swimming with Nanofibres or standing out in the pouring rain. Light rain, a bit of water before opening the umbrella or dashing to the car is no problem. Some hair thickening sprays do run, and of course when they run, you don’t just lose the camouflage but also have dye color running down your face and staining your clothes, even with those that claim to be waterproof. Even expensive watches that are water resistant to 500m never state waterproof – just water resistant. Water resistance is a relative idea. Some things are more resistant than others, but only something like a tattoo is waterproof. Using Nanogen Locking Mist with Nanofibres adds a lot of water resistance and this is a current focus for research and development. Meanwhile we have a surprise new product on the horizon which will solve this problem once and for all.
Some sprays really do have great water resistance, but don’t produce the camouflaging effect you expect. All you will have when swimming or in heavy rain is thin flat hair that has some strange bulk to it. The, “bouffant,” look the spray gives, although in our view unappealing when working, is not a flat mess, but very definitely is not natural or undetectable. So we do not understand the purpose of the water resistance other than to stop dye leaking. It is not the same as having the camouflage effect after coming out of the swimming pool.
Nanofibres is unrivalled by the effect of any old-fashioned and messy spray product. Only Nanofibres can deliver the natural weight, texture and above all realistic finish.
